Superior Health Foundation

Dear Friends and Partners,

As we move into fall, I want to share a few updates on what the Superior Health Foundation team has been working on this quarter, and what's ahead.

This fall, we will be bringing grantees together in three Upper Peninsula (U.P.) communities: Sault Ste. Marie, Manistique, and Houghton. These convenings are an opportunity for us to connect with the organizations doing the work on the ground, hear directly about what's going well and what's challenging, and strengthen the relationships that make our grantmaking effective. We're looking forward to spending time in each of these communities and learning alongside our partners.

I'll also be presenting at the 2026 Council of Michigan Foundations Annual Conference on our evolving approach to nonprofit capacity building, alongside colleagues from the Erb Family Foundation, Michigan Health Endowment Fund, and Provident Health Foundation. These conversations give us a chance to compare notes with peer funders on how we support the organizations we fund, and to bring back ideas that could strengthen our own practice here at SHF.

We are in the process of wrapping up our final grant cycle of the year. Announcements on those awards will go out in November, and we're grateful to every organization that applied and shared their work with us.

Behind the scenes, work continues on our grantmaking and evaluation strategy. This is a significant undertaking for our team, and we're taking the time to get it right. We expect to roll out the new strategy in early 2027, and we'll share more details as that work progresses.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support.

Warm Regards,

Megan Murphy

CEO, Superior Health Foundation

Keeping U.P. Older Adults Connected to Care

For many older adults in the Upper Peninsula, a ride to a medical appointment is not a given. Public transit is limited and family may live hours away. That discovery led LBFE to build Drive to Care, a door-through-door medical transportation service.

Angela Victorson | Director

Tell us a little about your professional background and what you do today.  I started in the banking business in 1984 and have been a mortgage lender for 42 years now. I currently work for loanDepot.com and enjoy making people happy when they’re ready to purchase a home.

What does living or working in the Upper Peninsula mean to you? I was raised in the Upper Peninsula and thoroughly enjoy the close knit communities we have here. The U.P. brings me peace in an otherwise hectic world.

What drew you to Superior Health Foundation and its mission?  I believe in helping those that are in need of help. I believe in contributing to my community through any means I can. SHF has amazed me since I began my Board membership and continues to everyday.

What aspect of SHF's work are you most proud of?  Implementation of new programs supporting the U.P.

What do you hope SHF accomplishes in the next few years?  I hope that SHF will be instrumental in assuring anyone in the U.P. that needs medical care can receive it.

Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about you?  I am married, with 3 grown children and grandchildren.

A note of thanks

Angela has completed nine years of service on the Superior Health Foundation Board of Directors. During her tenure, she was instrumental in the success of the annual gala and golf outing, helping raise support and awareness for the foundations work across the U.P.
