Funding for otherwise unmet medical needs of uninsured, underinsured, and medically vulnerable residents of the Upper Peninsula. Care Access Grant Applications are closed for 2026. Check back early 2027 for updates.

PURPOSE

Improving access to care

The intent of the Care Access Fund is to provide for otherwise unmet medical needs of uninsured, underinsured, and medically vulnerable residents of the Upper Peninsula. Some examples include, but are not limited to:

  • A cancer care services organization that provides financial support to patients who are otherwise unable to afford their treatment or supplemental healthcare.

  • A hospice that provides funding to families who can otherwise not afford to admit a loved one.

  • A hospital that provides assistance to patients who cannot otherwise afford care.

  • A behavioral health center that helps clients with the cost of residential or outpatient treatment.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Tax-exempt organizations based in or working in the Upper Peninsula that provide, arrange, or pay for medical or healthcare services or supports. Private foundations are not eligible to apply.

Start with a concept call or paper

Schedule a concept call or submit a concept paper to share your project idea with SHF. Schedule a call with Program Officer Nicky Bates, or email a one-pager to nbates@shfmi.org to discuss your project idea. This is not required for Care Access Grants, but it is highly recommended.

Complete and submit your application

Sign up or log in to our grants portal to complete and submit your application. You may preview the care access application questions at any time. All applications must be submitted through the grants portal. Emailed applications will not be accepted.

The Superior Health Foundation Board of Directors has sole responsibility for all grant decisions.
