SHF's 2025 Annual Report: A Year of Reaching Further
In 2025, Superior Health Foundation awarded $1,256,982 in grants to 50 organizations working to improve health across all 15 counties of the Upper Peninsula. Half of those organizations were first-time SHF grantees.
The needs driving that investment are not new. Behavioral health and substance use disorder represented the largest share of funding, reflecting what communities across the U.P. consistently identify as urgent. Workforce development and maternal and infant health were also significant focus areas.
A few highlights from the year:
Rx Kids came to the Eastern U.P. and 340 mothers and babies enrolled in the nation's first community-wide prenatal and infant cash prescription program. By year's end, $1.5 million had been distributed to Eastern U.P. mothers. 93% attended at least one prenatal care visit in a three-month period.
When SNAP benefits were paused and food insecurity spiked, SHF moved quickly, directing $65,000 to food pantries in partnership with regional community foundations.
30 AEDs were distributed to community organizations across the U.P., from fairgrounds to schools to community centers.
Our grantmaking follows the lead of communities closest to the issues and invests in the organizations working to close longstanding gaps. The 2025 Annual Report tells that story in full.
