Ready When It Matters: 32 AEDs Distributed Across the UP

A cardiac emergency can happen anywhere. When it does, every second counts. If CPR is started immediately and a defibrillator is used within three minutes, survival rates can reach up to 70%. But for many local organizations, AEDs remain out of reach without support.

This year, 32 nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations across the U.P. applied for and received an AED through the Superior Health Foundation AED Program. Applications opened in early February 2026 and closed within five days, a reflection of the communities who want to be ready when it matters most.

From martial arts studios to school districts, transit authorities to fire departments, this year's recipients represent a diverse slice of U.P. community life.

More Than a Device

Receiving an AED is only the first step. This year, SHF partnered with Superior Life Services to offer AED, CPR, and first aid training to all recipients, so the people most likely to be present in an emergency are equipped to act.

About the AED Program

The SHF AED Program supplies lifesaving devices to nonprofit organizations across the Upper Peninsula. AEDs are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified organizations that serve the public, host group events or activities, or serve a large number of older adults.

Applications for the 2026 cycle are now closed. If you have questions please contact us at shf@shfmi.org.
