SHF Breast Health Fund Featured on My UP Now
A breast cancer diagnosis brings financial strain alongside the medical challenges. Copays, deductibles, and travel to treatment outside the area can quickly add up, even for people with insurance. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, My UP Now featured the Superior Health Foundation Breast Health Fund.
Manoomin as Medicine Initiative Receives Grant Funding
A $13,800 grant from the Superior Health Foundation will help support Northern Michigan University's Manoomin as Medicine Initiative. Led by NMU's Office of Opportunity, Empowerment and People, the initiative will focus on community outreach, local revitalization of wild rice or “manoomin” beds, monitoring watersheds and working on youth-centered projects in conjunction with a number of partners.
UP organizations convene around programs to improve care for aging adults
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - U.P. organizations shared new initiatives to improve care for aging adults in the region. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, Superior Health Foundation and Michigan Health Endowment Fund held the “Investing in the Health of the Upper Peninsula Grantee Convening” event in Marquette.
SHF Elects Holly Peoples to Board of Directors
Holly Peoples of Gladstone has joined the Superior Health Foundation board of directors, representing Delta County and the south central U.P.
Peoples is Director of Business Services, Michigan Works Upper Peninsula, where she has worked in workforce and economic development since 1998.
Superior Health Foundation invests $100k in Sawyer dental clinic
GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – A significant investment is coming to the Gwinn and Sawyer area to help close one of the U.P.’s most persistent health gaps – dental care. The Superior Health Foundation awarded 100-thousand dollars to the Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center for new dental equipment at its Sawyer Family Health Center in K-I Sawyer.
