Superior Health Foundation boosts UP food pantries’ supply with donation, supports TV6 Canathon
NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) - A Marquette County nonprofit is looking to help U.P. communities lessen food insecurity.
In the name of the TV6 Canathon, Superior Health Foundation is giving $65,000 to food pantries across the Upper Peninsula. 14 of the U.P.’s 15 counties will get between $2,000 and $10,000 to go to local pantries.
SHF CEO Megan Murphy said they’re concerned about how a delay in SNAP benefits could affect families.
“We also have been hearing recently from our partners and local pantries that they are running out of food, their shelves are bare. And this time of year is, you know, coming up on the holidays,” Murphy added. “Families are already a little pressed for time and money, and we wanted to make sure that we were able to support those folks that need a little boost around this time of the year.”
Murphy encourages cash donations, as pantries can make dollars stretch further with grocer partnerships. But she said any extra food you could donate goes a long way to help.
