SHF gives out nearly $300k in grants

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Superior Health Foundation (SHF) completed its first quarter 2026 grant cycle, distributing nearly $300,000 across seven grants to Upper Peninsula organizations focused on access to care, food security, and maternal health.

Grant recipients include Munising Memorial Hospital, which received $75,000 to operate a Mobile Health Unit serving residents within a 100-mile radius of Alger County, and Lac Vieux Desert Health Center, which received a $6,900 Equipment Grant to support a new Prevention and Wellness Expansion with rehabilitation and pain management equipment. Additional grants supported refrigeration capacity at food pantries through a collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Dairy Industry of Michigan, and indigenous doula support through a partnership with the Michigan Breastfeeding Network.

"This cycle is a good reminder of why place-based philanthropy matters," said CEO Megan Murphy. "The organizations we funded this quarter understand the Upper Peninsula's geography, demographics, and history intimately."
