Superior Health Foundation Announces Nearly $300,000 in Grants

Marquette, MI – March 4, 2026 – The Superior Health Foundation concluded its Q1 Grant cycle on March 4th, announcing $299,292 in funding distributed across seven grants to agencies serving the Upper Peninsula. The awards include $225,000 in U.P. Health Impact Grants across three projects addressing behavioral health, maternal and infant health, and access to care; $24,292 in Equipment Grants supporting three organizations; and a $50,000 contribution to a collaborative with the United Dairy Industry of Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to expand refrigeration capacity at Upper Peninsula food pantries.

The Foundation received over $500,000 in grant requests, reflecting a continued need for health-focused support across the region.

“This cycle is a good reminder of why place-based philanthropy matters. The Upper Peninsula’s geography, demographics, and history create health challenges that off-the-shelf solutions can’t address. The organizations we funded this quarter understand that intimately," said Superior Health Foundation CEO Megan Murphy.

In this cycle, Munising Memorial Hospital (MMH) received $75,000 to operationalize a Mobile Health Unit (MHU) serving residents within a 100-mile radius of Alger County. The Mobile Health Unit will deliver preventive, chronic, behavioral, and maternal-child health services directly into communities with limited access to care, prioritizing elderly adults, children, and other underserved populations.

SHF also provided a $6,900 Equipment Grant to Lac Vieux Desert Health Center to purchase rehabilitation devices and pain management equipment in support of their new Prevention and Wellness Expansion, expanding the range of services available to community members.
